So Here We Go!
This week has been an inspirational, electrifying experience and somewhat hectic so far. As the title of this blog suggests, I will be sharing my inquisitee experience at Sussex BBC Live radio Station Interview with Sarah Gorrell where you can hear me and director/Writer of Crystals Vardo Suzanna King, talking about the performance of Crystals Vardo and the story it tells to raise awareness playing at The All Saints Arts Centre in Lewes that took place on Thursday 31st January 2019. on Wednesday 30th January 2019 I was travelling from London to Brighton for rehearsals, so I decide to whip out my phone on the train to check my emails and seen one from my Director/Writer of Crystals Vardo Suzanna who had said we had been invited to BBC Sussex to do a Live Radio Interview for them in regards to the show. so I went about my day, after rehearsals both me and Suzanna went to BBC Sussex Interview. Immediately upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the staff and offered some water which was lovely btw, seeing as this was my first time doing this I was hesitant on what to expect. My presumptions were that the environment would be of a traditional appearance and that staff would be running around solely working and operating on laptops, however, many staff were elsewhere, we got introduced to Fiona who we spoken to over email and who then introduced us to presenter Sarah Gorrell who was keen to find out more about the play. On entrance to the Interview Room we gained further insight into how it all works and structure of the studio. In the room Fiona seated us across from Sarah and positioned mics and headphones to then leaving the room and Sarah said we would be on air shortly and that's when the interview takes place or rather took place. which you can listen to, if you haven't already on BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p06wtpqw fast forward to 39 minutes in to hear us - proud to be involved in such a pivotal play challenging racism and prejudice discrimination towards Gypsies and Travellers. After our Interview, we had some nice comments from BBC Sussex staff and they thanked us, we thanked them had a chat and left. The following day we were sent an email to wish us luck with the performance, and how lovely the interview was in fact the manager said how impressed she was! and it was Showtime! As stated in the title we now have a new version of Crystals Vardo with added Live Music and new costumes. we performed the new Crystals Vardo at the All saints Arts Centre in Lewes - after the performance I had some lovely people from the audience come up and say how much they enjoyed the show, sharing their experiences and opinions, which is astonishing because I get to change public perceptions on how society views my culture - (I'm from an ethnic minority - Gypsies and Travellers). Also we had the lovely Raine Geoghegan who read a special poem 'The Gypsy Camp At Auschwitz' and who had left a beautiful review saying: "What an amazing production this is. I saw it today in Lewes and was spellbound. The story of the Gypsy Travellers is both illuminating and powerful. The cast of three plus the musician all work hard to make it a tight knit professional performance. Great work Susanna and team" I spoke with Raine after the show, she was amazed by the performance and we had a photo taken together. Also an ancestor of Matty Coopers - (Rat Catcher to the Queen Victoria and Well respected member of the Gypsy Community in 1836), Janet and her sister came to greet me after my performance to say how well I had done. previously before the show I had already met Janet who is a historian Romany Gypsy, who had shown up to one of the rehearsals to show her interest and provide more information about Matty and Traditional dances etc. So at the Lewes show when I met her sister after the show, they complimented my accent in the show as opposed to my own. Moving on, after meeting all these lovely people I was asked to do another interview for BBC with Jessica Monson about the show and the misconceptions about my community and so forth, only this time it was on camera. Shortly I will be uploading some questions and answers in regards to this. Earlier this week I attended a show of Crystals Vardo at the London Oval House with Kavanagh-rose Rattigan Starring as Crystal, so I got to see the show from an audience members perspective which was great by the way! absolutely enjoyed the whole thing. However, at this event I met some really interesting and amazing people in the evening after the show including; Dee Koppang - producer and director, lovely lady and katy - casting director of an upcoming film Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, that I will be taking part in which I'm really excited about. and many more fascinating, awesome people. The opportunity to be able to meet and work alongside such talented and inspirational people was unforgettable, it was an enchanting experience and I had a delightful evening. So … Overall, this week has produced a tremendously insightful application of how far I've come in my career; I am immensely thankful for the experiences I have received throughout the past week or two. I am proud to say I'm a part-Romany, part-Irish Traveller/Gypsy and I can embrace who I'm becoming, and wish to raise awareness through my upcoming and past Tours of Crystals Vardo - As a working actor and traveller myself, I believe that already I'm challenging the stereotypes made against Gypsies and Travellers. Next I have a audition coming up - unfortunately that's all the information I can give you for now, but there are great opportunities coming my way so its gonna a bit of a hectic year, which means I might not be able to be actively blogging I will try my best - (I'm not the best blogger lol). wish me luck, thank you and good bye for now. Much Love, Shannon Nolan. xoxo

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! AND MANY MORE TO COME!
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT THIS YEAR WAS FULL OF GREAT OPPERTUNITIES, LIFE LESSONS AND CHANCES ENABLING ME TO DISCOVER MYSELF AND OTHERS. IVE BEEN NOTING DOWN THINGS THAT IVE LEARNT THROGHOUT THE PAST YEAR AND I THOUGHT TO SHARE THEM WITH YOU: 1. ATTITUDE IS VITAL - LETS JUST SAY ... I CAME ACROSS A FEW NEGATIVE PEOPLE THIS YEAR. NEGATIVITY CREATES AN IMPACT AND MAY CAUSE ONES LIFE TO FALL APART. POSITIVE VIBES ONLY! GOOD RELATIONSHIPS ARE ESTABLISHED ONLY WHEN YOU DEMONSTRATE A GOOD ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE. 2. DONT SAY YES IF YOU DONT WANT TO - ITS OKAY TO SAY "NO" ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS TO DO, THE KEY TO SAYING NO IS TO SAY IT FIRMLY WITHOUT AN OVERLONG EXPLANATION. 3. COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF ALL JOY - YOU SHOULD NEVER WANT TO BE ANYONE ELSE BUT YOU, IF SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING "BETTER" THAN YOU THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU WORTHLESS OR ANY LESSER A PERSON. FOCUS ON WHAT "YOU" CAN DO AND DO IT THE BEST "YOU" CAN. YOU WOULD BE TEN TIMES HAPPIER IF YOU LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN DO AS OPPOSED TO WHAT YOU CANT - FORGET WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING. 4. GET INVOLVED!, JOIN IN. THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE CONNECTIONS AND MEET NEW PEOPLE, NEW FRIENDS. BEING INVOLVED BENEFITS YOU AND YOUR RESUME. 5. DONT LET THERE BE BARRIERS - BREAKTHROUGH ANY BARRIER; THE WORLD AROUND US IS EVOLVING AND PEOPLE ARE CHANGING, MY ADVICE TO YOU ... KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO BEST, STAY MOTIVATED AND KEEP GOING DONT LOOK BACK! 6. COFFE CURES ALL - DID I MENTION I LOVE COFFEE, AND IF COFFEE CANT FIX, THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. JUST MESSING! ALL IN ALL , ITS BEEN AN AMAZING AND RESOURCEFUL YEAR... SOMETHING I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO SAY IN AWHILE. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT THIS NEW YEAR IS AS EYE OPENING, SUCCESSFUL AND FULL OF LIFE CHANGING OPPERTUNITIES THAT WILL TURN OUT TO CREATE ASTONISHING STORIES! I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR! MUCH LOVE XOXO SHANNON ♥️ XOXO update: below you will find a link to my interview on Crystal's vARDO ON TRAVELLERS TIMES.11/12/2018 My Blog, 18/07/18
